Building a law firm or taking an existing firm to the next level or two requires leadership. The Law of the Inner Circle is the law of leadership that will make or break your firm’s growth. Having one leader on the team may sound like a natural way to move a business to new levels but the truth is that it takes everyone on the team to have leadership skills and abilities. The law of the inner circle says that the people closest to him or her determine every leader’s potential. The entire team determines growth of a law firm.
Look at the 1998 World Series Champions the New York Yankees, not one position player was selected to the All-Star game, with names like Derek Jeter, Tino Martinez, Paul O’Neill, Bernie Williams and Scott Brosius on the roster. Derek Jeter, Tino Martinez and Paul O’Neil are or were arguably three outstanding leaders on and off the field. A quick look down the roster and you will see a dynamic “All-Starless” group of leaders.
The Law of Empowerment compliments and maximizes the potential positive outcome from the Law of the Inner Circle. A secure leader gives power to the others on the team this is effective leadership at it’s best. Effective leaders give other leaders the credit. They know the overall law firm’s goals and base their leadership on results and not their ego. They praise their people and leaders within the ranks and stay out of their way. They do not micro-manage the team. They are the leader of leaders.
