Treat your people well!

Leaders that have built highly profitable law firms know that treating all people well is essential. Team members always respond to praise much quicker than they do criticism. People want to feel appreciated more than any one thing. Recognition of a job well done will go further than a raise! Yes that is correct, people do not evaluate whether a raise is better than recognition it is a subtle phenomena that occurs within them. Trust me a raise and a kick in the tail will not get you close to what a kind and grateful word will result in.
You can drive people to work hard however they will eventually crack. When you are not there they will slack off, they will find ways to get over on you. But when they like you, trust you and feel appreciated by you they will work the same when you are there or in court. Of course compensation is a great way to show appreciation but it is not the compensation that keeps them focused!
