Inspection of Egg Facilities in Iowa for Salmonella is On the Way

Minneapolis – Food safety law firm Pritzker Olsen attorneys, together with a microbiology professor, will be inspecting the Hillandale Farms and Wright County Egg on September 30 and October 5 respectively. The site investigation is brought about by the discovery of unsafe conditions in the said egg farms during an inspection conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Live mice, uncaged hens, and piles of manure were among those that were discovered.

Attorneys Ryan Osterholm and Brendan Flaherty would inspect the egg facilities in Iowa, together with Dr. Scott Russell, who is a microbiology professor. The purpose for the inspection is to enable the lawyers and the professor, to document their findings, in order to analyze the problems behind the facilities.

1600 illnesses were recorded due to the Salmonella outbreak. Hundreds of people who were affected by the Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak sought the firm’s help, leading to an egg class action suit.

The first egg lawsuit was filed in June, when a woman was sickened from a restaurant outbreak. State health investigators traced the cause of the incident to Hillandale Farms.

It was found that the Peanut Corporation of America, the company responsible for the 2009 Salmonella outbreak, and Wright County Egg, used the same auditing firm, AIB, in rating their food safety practices.
