What do you know about people?

What do you know about people?

We have all heard it said, “It is not what you know it is whom you know that matters”.  Yet that is a cynical look at our phenomenal democratic system in the United States of America and ever expanding throughout the world today.  The truth is it is not what you know that matters; it is what you do with what you know that really matters.

The only way to build a massive law firm is to develop above average if not exceptional people skills.  You can have exceptional corporate stationery with a unique and exceptional business letterhead font on your stationery but have sub par people skills and you will fail.  You can have an exceptional winning percentage as a litigator but have terrible communication skills with people and you will fail.

Sub-par people skills are difficult at best to overcome.  Becoming a people person takes work and practice.  The ideal is to become more effective with people.  Having people know how is essential to building a massive law firm.  Developing solid people skills takes understanding or recognizing human nature and behavior, taking a new view of people, and developing some simple communication and people skills.
